Over the years, those who work their way up the ladder of success find it is in no small part to making good friends in business circles. Business networking is a natural act for most sales and business development professionals, but those in other occupations are often challenged by the process. Technologists used to have great job security and pesky recruiters constantly presented career opportunities. Offline events like trade shows or conventions that are geared towards any specific industry are essential to attend in order to network and build relationships. People attend those events knowing that they will other people have connections within that specific industry, and are frequently there looking to build contacts of their own. Eventually, even the well-disguised sycophant will be unmasked as the self-serving character he truly is, since most people can instinctively sense when the motives of others are not completely altruistic. On that be the first to extend your hand remember when people sense that just by being associated with you, their lives will experience significant increase, they will naturally want to advance the relationship.
